If you publish it, they will not come. As much as you want your consumers to automatically know you have new content on your site, it just doesn’t happen that way. You have to promote content, just as you have to market your business. The good news is that when you promote content, you’re promoting your business. All you need to know now is how to do it effectively.
Optimize the Content
Keyword research is important to the success of blog posts and webpage copy. Using the keyword phrases your consumers use on search engines will help get it ranked correctly and highly on results pages. Â Google’s Keyword Planner is a great tool to help you perform your keyword research to more effectively promote content.
Don’t overuse your keywords, but use them enough so that it’s obvious the topic of the blog post or webpage copy helps users typing in the phrase. For example, if you have a keyword such as plumber Atlanta GA, you want to make sure you use it in the copy in which you discuss how you are a plumber in Atlanta, GA.
Use Social Media
With so many people on social media, it’s important to market your site on it. You do this with what you publish on it. Social media promotes content in two ways:
- Your followers see the content. If they like it, they will share it with their followers.
- Google search bots crawl social networks regularly because of all the activity on them. The bots will find your link quicker this way, which leads them to your content’s URL. This ensures you end up having it ranked quickly, so other people can find it on search engine results pages.
Send Email Newsletter
Every publisher should have an email list. This list can be added to by having a sign up form on your site and asking your social media followers to sign up to be on it. With your email list, you can create newsletters to send. A newsletter is a short, interesting email with links to your content. This brings your site and the information in front of many more people.
Don’t forget to include social media links, so recipients can share what’s included in the newsletter with their followers.
Join Groups to Share
There are many groups you can join online such as on Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn. All of these groups can be an opportunity to share your content. You will need to be an active member of these groups, so they don’t think you are just using them for marketing. Answer and ask questions, engage with other members, and then when you have a useful blog post or article, you can share it with the group.
Share with Influencers
Influencers are people who have a huge following of consumers who may be interested in what you’re selling. You can find influencers on social networks by searching for those that have many followers and many likes or comments on the posts. Once you find one, message the person and get to know him or her. After building a rapport, you can ask if he or she would be willing to share your content with his or her followers. Many times, it’s useful to ask if he or she has anything for you to share to return the favor.
Repurpose the Content
Put the content in an eBook or white paper. When you promote one of those, you’ll be doing the same for your blog. As you can see, you can build and market off everything you create.
Start Promoting Consistently to Succeed
Content promotion is not hard, but it is work. You need to do it consistently to see results from it. Create a content marketing strategy and stick to it. Track the results from it, and then make adjustments as needed. Before too long, you’ll see the effectiveness of your promotion.
